OT Coach

Orangetheory Fitness is a well-established fitness company, with locations in 23 countries and all 50 U.S. states. Orangetheory Fitness has developed multiple applications for both consumer and company personnel over the recent years, including Fitbook, which is their company guide for trainers, workout routines, and directions. However, Orangetheory Fitness wanted to unify all applications and software into one universal platform for Orangetheory Fitness coaches.

The Challenge

Orangetheory Fitness is a well-established fitness company, with locations in 23 countries and all 50 U.S. states. Before their mobile apps, Orangetheory Fitness used primitive methods for their business practices, using PDFs, printed paper, desktop computers for videos, and other mediums of coaching/training. Orangetheory Fitness has developed multiple applications for both consumer and company personnel over the recent years, including Fitbook, which is their company guide for trainers, workout routines, and directions. Orangetheory Fitness was set on a mission to unify all applications and software into one universal platform for Orangetheory Fitness coaches. When our developer joined the team, the application was in development, but far from finished; the application was not functional and had a number of bugs and improper coding techniques to correct. Additionally, our developer mentioned that managers of the development team recommended that the design needed better formatting and UI functionality.

The Solution

For the development of the mobile application OTCoach, our developer and development team went through all APIs and a great deal of testing, including Memory Testing, UI Testing, Unit Testing, all for application efficiency and consistent performance. Developer also worked on the QA side and with Orangetheory Fitness coaches to incorporate their input and receive feedback on development stages, business-logic, and overall functionality. Coaches worked with developers to create one platform to function more efficiently for both themselves and customers. Developer followed Agile processes and ‘Jira’ project management system to track tasks. Application requirements included language availability in Japanese for future business development in Japan. Orangetheory Fitness is currently working in 23 countries and 50 U.S. states already, but soon to expand across the globe and include a myriad of language availability.

The Benefits

Three parties benefit from creating the universal application OTCoach: the consumer, Orangetheory Fitness, and the Orangetheory Fitness coaches. This new application, still in development but to be launched soon, includes many of the latest offerings from the Apple fitness product line. The Apple Watch is a key feature of this application, among other Apple products. The mobile app integrates the Apple watch, using haptic features for timing reminders, workout timings, and heart rate & calorie measurements. This simplifies consumer interaction and provides a well-established platform for consumers and Orangetheory Fitness coaches to monitor progress, as all information is communicated from the Apple Watch to the OTCoach application. Apple TV integration is also included for training videos, exercise explanations, and live Apple Music capabilities during a workout. Orangetheory Fitness coaches benefit from OTCoach because all information related to their client, workout plans, programs, and live biometric info is readily available on the mobile app. The consumer also benefits because trainers are more prepared and focused on client success, which brings business efficiency to Orangetheory Fitness. Orangetheory Fitness has well-trained instructors, and using the app, the trainers work directly with the consumer to keep them on track with a workout.
